Louis Vuitton Time Capsule Exhibition – Los Angeles 05.18.18 – 06.10.18

The fashion house Louis Vuitton is making its first stop in North America for its “Time Capsule Exhibition” in Los Angeles. From May 18 to June 10, you can experience this six-part mini pop-up museum featuring some of Louis Vuitton’s classic pieces from archived travel trunks to various Speedy bags from memorable collaborations. Admission is free, and the exhibit is currently located at the Century City’s Westfield Mall, which is also home to numerous designer stores and trendy eateries.

While being known for its classic pieces, this exhibition highlights Louis Vuitton’s progressive technology and designs. You can immerse yourself in LV history dating back to 1854 and experience how the Maison has modernized its styles to fit changing times.

Outside of the exhibition, you can also purchase pieces from Louis Vuitton’s gifting collection. As a collector of Louis Vuitton’s City Guides, this was the perfect opportunity to grab the latest edition for one of my upcoming destinations, Tokyo (stay tuned for that in future posts). They also have a variety of design books to add luxury to any coffee table.

If you find yourself in LA before the exhibition closes, I highly recommend experiencing it yourself! It’s a quick stop but innovative and informative to help create a better appreciation for the longstanding Louis Vuitton fashion house.

Customized Lipstick by YSL – Yves Saint Laurent

As Yves Saint Laurent said himself, “The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion, but cosmetics are easier to buy.” I have to say that this is especially true when you can customize your own piece of luxurious makeup. When I heard that my local Nordstrom was providing engraving onto YSL lipsticks or perfume bottles this week, I had to check it out myself! While YSL products carry the high-end price tag, their quality and glamorous delivery earn this fashion house its rightful place within the luxury goods market.

First, let’s start with picking out the product. YSL offers a variety of lip products from traditional lipsticks to liquid balms to stains to glosses. I opted for the classic Rouge Pur Couture lipstick ($37… eeek, no comment!). Next, pick a shade of pink, red, purple, peach, etc. You name it, and they have the color (or rather, the number) for you! It can be a bit tricky when choosing your shade since the lipsticks are labeled with their color number rather than name, by which they are normally swatched and pictured online. Luckily, I already had an idea of what I was looking for. Given its steep price tag, I wasn’t looking for a flashy or “special occasion” color. Instead, I wanted a versatile, low maintenance shade that I could sport in the office or wear casually on the weekends. I also wanted a lipstick that could go with almost any eyeshadow look. Basically, I was looking for a nude-ish color (big surprise…NOT! haha).

Helpful Tip: If you have a favorite lipstick from another brand, bring it to the store and find a similar YSL dupe. This guarantees that you’ll wear that particular YSL shade too. I took 2 shades from MAC (Velvet Teddy and Faux) that I wear religiously and started swatching YSL shades in search of any similarities. The sales associate was also very helpful with this! We narrowed it down to shades #70 – Le Nu and #66 – Rosewood/Bois De Rose.  Both have satin finishes so though opaque, there is still a slight sheen when applied. Le Nu is one of YSL’s most popular shades being a “your lips but better” type of color. To me, this seemed to match Faux more closely. However, being so popular, they were out of stock. As fate would have it, my decision was easily made and I went with Rosewood, which is more of a warm nude (pictured above).

IMG-1269Finally, time for the show! To be honest, I assumed that there was going to be an actual person doing the engraving. I’ve seen artists hand painting onto perfume bottles at other department stores like Bloomingdales during special events. So I was somewhat surprised to discover that my Nordstrom had a machine to do the personalization. With the help of an iPad, I was able to choose my name/message, pick a font, and watch the magic happen! Check out my video clip below!

Honestly, I really enjoyed the experience of choosing and watching my personalized lipstick come to life in person. However, this was only a temporary offering at my local Nordstrom. Luckily, YSL now let’s buyers customize their own products online!  The engraving is also complimentary on their website! Check it out here! The also offer additional options online for the design of the cap. Choose from classic gold, lips, starts, hearts, or sparkle. Note that there is an additional $3.00 fee for any cap other than the classic gold. Once, you choose your shade, you can input a message (up to 14 characters) or your monogram (3 letters). You are limited to letters A-Z, numbers 0-9 and symbols ‘.-_!@:# However, I did not see the option to choose your font online.

As you can see in the pictures, I chose to put Dr. Healy on my lipstick. I acknowledge that this glamorizes my career, which in reality, requires a lot of hard work, empathy, and patience everyday. However, I love finding that balance of being a motivated professional and still enjoying a little luxury and glamour. After all, #shecanbeboth !

I hope you enjoyed hearing about this little experience! What would you engrave on a lipstick or perfume bottle? Comment below!

Holiday Travel Series: CALPAK Marble Carry-On Review

Holiday Travel Series: CALPAK Marble Carry-On Review

It’s safe to say that it’s officially holiday season, and for many of us, this also means planning for upcoming travels to spend time with our loved ones! I travel quite frequently year round, so I’ve been putting the CALPAK Astyll 22-inch rolling carry-on to the test over the past six months.  Keep reading if your looking for a new luggage or thinking of gift ideas for a frequent traveler on your list!

First off, I’m a sucker for anything marble, so this piece immediately caught my eye.  The color is called Milk Marble. However, aesthetics aside, this CALPAK carry-on has made traveling such a breeze… literally! I realized that this was a winner when I found myself sprinting through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to catch the last flight out for the night, and this luggage made it so much easier! I was still sweating bullets, but I wasn’t being held back by my luggage. It has eight, multidirectional wheels that allow this carry-on to glide over various types of flooring effortlessly.

This carry-on measures 14 ½” wide, x 20″ high, x 9″ deep. The hard shell itself is sleek, durable, and lightweight. The telescoping pull handle is a petite girl’s dream! Standing just under 5 feet, I prefer to keep the handle at a lower setting, which brings it up to 11″ from the top of the luggage.  However, you can definitely extend the handle farther to 19″ from the top of the luggage.  There are also rubberized top and side carry handles, which makes lifting this into a car trunk or overhead bin much easier. The zip-around closure has integrated TSA lock for which you can set your own three-digit numeric code. Lastly, you have the option to unzip an expansion sleeve when you find yourself needing to pack extra.

I’ve included pictures of things I brought for a weekend trip, so you can see how much this carry-on holds. Despite packing a few casual and dressy outfits, there was still quite a bit of room if I wanted to pack more. There’s a zipper divider that creates two separate packing compartments. I prefer to keep my clothes on this left side. The right side features an elastic belt to hold your belongings in place. This is where I tend to pack my shoes, makeup bag, toiletry bag, and hair curler. There is also a zippered pouch that runs vertically down the middle of the luggage. I may place undies or jewelry in here.

What I packed:

  • unnamed-11Pair of jeans
  • Pair of leggings
  • Wool sweater (thicker)
  • Cotton sweater
  • Sweatshirt
  • Puffer vest
  • White cotton tee
  • Black cotton tee
  • White satin top
  • Light pink satin top
  • Bra (I didn’t feature my socks and undies, but I promise I usually pack them too)
  • Lace midi dress
  • Heels
  • Booties
  • Sneakers
  • Curling wand
  • Toiletry bag
  • Makeup bag

Where to find this and other options.

I purchased mine at Nordstrom with free shipping and easy returns. It retails for $125.00. There is also another color called Midnight Marble. For those who are looking for a check-in size luggage as well, there is a set that includes a 30″ and a 22″ luggage for $265.00. Other than the company site, I’ve also seen other websites carry this recently. Check out Urban Outfitters, Francesca’s, and Shopbop.

Happy travels!

Happy Birthday, whitecoat2whitedress! CHANEL Light Gold O Case Review

It’s official – FIRST BLOG POST!  I’ve been eyeing plenty of unicorn themed cakes and parties on social media lately, so in the spirit of celebrating birthdays, I wanted to share my review of the new CHANEL O Case in metallic grained calfskin and silver-tone metal hardware.

When this light gold color premiered as part of the CHANEL Fall Winter 2017/18 Pre-Collection, my Instagram feed went crazy for this iridescent – sometimes gold, sometimes pink unicorn-eqsue color! As you can see in my pictures below, the color really changes depending on the lighting, which I think makes it more unique. This gorgeous finish is now available in a plethora of styles including various sizes of the classic flap, the wallet on chain (WOC), and other small leather goods.  I opted for the small O Case due to its versatility and lower price point compared to the handbags.

Size and Capacity
According to the official CHANEL website, the dimensions of the small O Case are 7.9 x 10.8 x 0.4 inches, which fits my (short) petite 5′ frame. If you are taller or plan to carry documents or a planner/agenda in the O Case, I would opt for the large size. Here are some essentials that I normally throw in my O Case:

I appreciate that the calfskin is more durable and forgiving than lambskin. Since I hold the O Case alongside my torso, I try to be mindful of movements or clothing that may scratch it. Plus, in case I drop it, there is no strap to rely on, so softer materials (e.g. lambskin) would be more prone to damage.

Dress It Up or Down
While my attire is more professional during the work week, I love a good pair of leggings or torn jeans on the weekends. Thus, it’s important for me to invest in pieces that I can use anytime. Many people use the O Case in their daily corporate routines and take advantage of this piece’s versatility.

Lastly, I have found the O Case to be a great travel-friendly purse. I keep credit cards and important belongings in the zippered compartment inside. There’s also plenty of room to store my cell phone, keys, lipstick, etc. in the main compartment without making it look or feel too bulky. There is a small  pocket on the back exterior, but I haven’t found a good use for this yet.  While traveling, I like to throw the O Case into a larger tote bag with my other airport necessities.  Since the O Case is already so slim, I don’t worry about it getting squished. Then once I’ve reached my destination and am ready to explore, I just grab my O Case and go! For me, the numerous uses I have found for this pouch, makes it worth the investment!
